VAT information
Effective from 29 May 2026. How UK VAT is applied to DataDeal subscriptions and where to find tax-compliant invoices.
At a glance
- All prices on the pricing page are shown inclusive of UK VAT at the prevailing rate (currently 20%).
- The ex-VAT equivalent is displayed alongside each price for accounting purposes.
- VAT invoices are issued by Stripe Payments UK Ltd. on our behalf and are downloadable from the Customer Portal.
- VAT number: pending registration. Until the threshold is reached, invoices are issued without a VAT number and no UK VAT is charged.
1. Who issues the invoice
Subscription billing is handled by Stripe Payments UK Ltd. as a payment processor acting on behalf of DataDeal Technologies Ltd. Every successful charge produces a PDF invoice that is emailed to the address on your account and is also available for download from the Stripe Customer Portal — accessible from the Account · Billing page when you are signed in.
2. UK VAT — inclusive pricing
UK consumer-protection guidance (Consumer Rights Act 2015 and Price Marking Order 2004) and standard HMRC practice for B2B SaaS sold to UK customers favour inclusive pricing on the marketing page. We therefore display the gross (inc-VAT) figure as the headline price for each plan and show the net (ex-VAT) equivalent in a sub-line of the same card.
The conversion uses the prevailing standard rate (20% at the date of this notice). The calculation is ex-VAT = inc-VAT ÷ 1.20. Where the standard rate changes, both numbers are recalculated on the next deploy.
3. VAT registration status
DataDeal Technologies Ltd. will register for UK VAT on reaching the registration threshold or earlier on a voluntary basis. Until registration completes:
- no UK VAT is charged on the subscription fee;
- invoices issued through Stripe do not bear a VAT registration number;
- the headline prices on the pricing page remain valid — once we are registered, the displayed inc-VAT figure stays the same and we absorb the registration as part of the existing price for at least the first quarter, so existing subscribers are not affected.
A registered VAT number will appear here, on the pricing page and on every subsequent Stripe invoice on the day registration is confirmed.
4. Customers outside the UK
For customers established outside the United Kingdom we rely on the place-of-supply rules in the VAT Act 1994 and on Stripe Tax to determine whether output VAT, the reverse charge or zero-rating applies to your invoice. Stripe collects the country of establishment and any applicable VAT/GST/EU VAT number at checkout and renders the correct treatment on the invoice automatically.
If your invoice does not look right, write to datadeal50@co.uk with the invoice ID and we will reissue it.
5. Recovering VAT as a business
DataDeal is a B2B information service. UK-registered businesses generally recover input VAT on the subscription. Speak to your accountant about the correct treatment for your tax return. We cannot give tax advice — see the Not financial advice notice in the Terms of Service.
6. Receipts and historical invoices
Every paid invoice — including pro-rata adjustments after plan changes — is stored in the Stripe Customer Portal for the life of the account. We retain billing records for six (6) years from the end of the relevant financial year, in line with HMRC record-keeping requirements; see clause 7 of the Privacy Notice.
